During the spring break of 2013,
from March 28th to April 5th, a group of students, parents and staff from LCS will embark on a life-changing mission trip to Honduras, Central America. A total of 18 people will be participating in this event. Mr. Servellón, the Spanish teacher will be
leading the team. They will be visiting an orphanage in the town of Guaimacas, two hours northeast of the capital, Tegucigalpa. Orphanage Emmanuel was started years ago by an American couple from California. God put it on their hearts to care for orphans, so they decided to sell everything and move to Honduras in order to pursue their God-given dream. Years later, they now have more than 500 children under their care.
The orphanage is highly organized. Children wake up around six in the morning, do chores, get ready for the day and do morning devotions before attending school, which is also part of the orphanage. Vocational training, which is offered to the kids, includes the following: farming, woodworking, mechanics and landscaping. By the time the kids have to leave at the age of eighteen, they know a useful trade, thus being better equipped to succeed in the outside world.
The team from LCS will be ministering at the orphanage in different capacities. Based on the talents and abilities of the group, they will be doing different things. Some will do Vacation Bible School, others will do skits and sport clinics or tournaments, while others will teach the kids English. For the individuals who like to do manual work, there will be plenty to do, including feeding the chickens, milking the cows, feeding the pigs, gathering vegetables from the garden and maintaining their brand new Tilapia fish farm. Moreover, there will also be opportunities at the orphanage to help in their woodworking shop, their mechanic shop and with small construction projects. Most importantly, ample time will be available to show these needy children the love of God. Many of these little
ones just come up to the volunteer teams with their hands raised asking to be held and hugged. Our students and staff will be there to give as many hugs as possible.
This trip will be a tremendous blessing to all those who will participate in it. Many
lives will be transformed. Students will feel God heart of compassion, and they will be changed. lives will not be the same. To God be the glory forever and ever! Amen!
